Three men wearing ski masks, including one armed with a knife, confronted him.

"We don't know if he was specifically targeted because of his disability or that it just happened," said Redlands police spokesman Carl Baker.

After the robbers attacked him, they took the man's wallet and home electronics, including a device that allows him to communicate through a computer keyboard.

Police received a 9-1-1 call either from the man or from someone who heard him screaming.

Police said the man had difficulty communicating with officers, but through handwritten notes, officers were able to determine he had been robbed.

Paramedics treated him at the scene for cuts and scrapes.

The man, who lived alone, is now living with other people at another address, Baker said.

"It's terrible when it happens to anybody, but when people take advantage of the elderly or someone with a disability, it's especially egregious," AdvertisementBaker said...
