Bond issue faces K'zoo voters... The current building dates to the 1970s, and its design is not conducive for the needs of the students, Telfer said. The rooms are separated by make-shift petitions, many are windowless and nearly all are too small, forcing wheelchairs and special equipment into the hallway, and ramps are too steep. The Kalamazoo Regional Education Service Agency (K-RESA) is asking for the bond. "We think it's a modest proposal," said K-RESA Superintendent Craig Misner. The total package would build a new school for the students currently at Croyden Avenue, renovate the building for early child development and young adult education, and renovate K-RESA's service center on Milham Road. Misner admits times are tough in Michigan, but said this proposal is a chance to stand up for kids who need a helping hand. "We always need to give back," he said. "We're always going to have a bond issue. We're always going to have a need if we want quality of life in terms of taxation."
