Their next appearance in San Bernardino County Superior Court is set for May 4.

Steven Kile, 29, who uses a wheelchair, was attacked after a person rang his apartment doorbell Sunday night and asked for a cup of sugar.

Kile, treated for cuts and bruises, appeared Wednesday with his family at a televised news conference in Redlands.

Masked men ransacked Kile's apartment and stole his home electronics and wallet, Redlands police reported.

A device Kile uses to communicate initially was reported stolen, but was later found in the apartment, police said.

A third suspect, Ronn James Odom, 16, is being charged as an adult, according to court records.

He is expected to be arraigned today in a downtown San Bernardino courtroom.

San Bernardino County Deputy District Attorney Michael O'Connell said Thursday afternoon that Odom is being charged as an adult because he was the aggressor who threw Kile from his wheelchair in addition to hitting and kicking him.

"He's the one who actually rang the doorbell and asked for sugar," O'Connell said of Odom.

O'Connell said the fourth suspect, who is 14, is being prosecuted as a minor because he acted as a lookout during the attack.
