Easter Seals helps local girl realize a dream

...Now, the family owns one."She has therapy and she has fun at the same time," Pam said.During Easter Seals' telethon today, Maddie will be showing off her riding abilities with her father, Jim, as part of the fundraiser.

Easter Seals serves 2,100 children and adults each year.Pam said the telethon is a lifesaver for the family because insurance doesn't cover all of Maddie's physical therapy."Our insurance is not the best.

We are very limited to therapy to the degree she needs it.

Easter Seals give you a very discounted rate so you can afford it," she said.

"They let you raise donations on your own before the telethon and they let you use 50 percent toward your child's therapy.

We raised $2,000 ourselves and Easter Seals will let us use half for Maddie's therapy and the other half will go to other children."Maddie, a second-grader at Wesmere Elementary, has been chosen to be one of four representatives for this year's annual telethon who will be on TV and share their stories.

She will be on TV riding her bike around 11:30-11:45 a.m.

and she and her family will be telling her story around 2 p.m.

The other representatives are Desi Pena, 2; Julie Bollini, 11, of Elim Christian School; and Vecente Ward, who is the adult representative.
