Parents of 'miracle' girls support March of Dimes

..."One-third of the earliest premature babies who survive have major, major problems." Still, the Marshalls have twice gone through a harrowing experience that seemed to come out of the blue.Each of Courtney's first two pregnancies was normal.

The boys went to term; all was well.

But with Anne, her third child, there were problems early on.

Courtney was confined to bed for weeks before the birth.

Even though doctors said it was highly unlikely that she would have a second premature baby, her pregnancy with Molly echoed her pregnancy with Anne.

Again, Courtney was confined to bed for weeks; again, the birth came early despite delaying efforts.The doctors were not confident that Molly would make it.

"We said we would like to have her baptized," Courtney says.

"We went in to say goodbye."But Molly pulled through."She's stubborn," says her mother.

"That's the reason she's here, because she's stubborn.'' Each of the girls spent 12 weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit at Golisano.For a while, they couldn't be picked up.

And when they were finally home, they couldn't really go anywhere for a year because of concern over infection.

But now they are out and about, doing what children their ages do.

Anne is in the first grade; Molly is in preschool."They're a miracle," Courtney says.
