Jimmy's form of the disorder leaves him more physically able than many CP patients. "I say, when I speak, I speak for them. Because, you know, they can't talk or they're in a wheelchair so they can't walk," he said. "I've jumped off a diving board. I've wrestled. I've done pretty much everything a regular kid would want to do." And he has done much of it in the name of others. The Carmel 12-year-old gives speeches, he gets in the ring to raise money for a charity that helps kids in other countries and he volunteers to be a real-life training aid for student therapists. "I mean they can do it on a regular person that doesn't have the diagnosis, but they won't get the same feeling with an actual person that has it," Jimmy said. The work has won Jimmy a rare recognition: the Prudential Spirit of Community Award , one of America's highest volunteering honors. He has also earned the admiration of those who know him best. "He's just what you inspire all your students to be. And you hope they get a little bit of spark of what he has," said teacher Deseree Becker-Wilpot. Jimmy plans to keep that spark alive a very long time. "If I don't stay physically active through my 20s and 30s, adult age, when I get older, it probably would get worse," he said. So do not expect the medal to mean the end of Jimmy's volunteering.
