For the Rainbow students, Mills techniques can involve "tapping a muscle to make it 'fire' " and nerve and muscle conditioning with stretching to contract and release a muscle.

"To pique the child's interest, I play games that are fun for the child but that are also beneficial for specific needs," Mills said.

The Rainbow students seem to like Mills' work.

"It's not communicated through words, but through their smiles, laughter and theimprovements that I observe when I visit." Mills has experience in several fields of physical therapy: acute care, outpatient and sports rehabilitation, early intervention and pediatrics.

He has conducted in-service programs on aquatic therapy for children with disabilities and lumbar stabilization.

He completed internships at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Sebring, Fla., HealthSouth Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Center in Melbourne, Fla., and Lighthouse Learning Center in Jacksonville, Fla.

Mills has been associated with Johnson and Hayes for eight months.
